Constitution of the South African Content Creators Union (SACCU)
Preamble:
We, the content creators of South Africa, united under the banner of the South African Content Creators Union (SACCU), hereby establish this Constitution as the foundational charter of our Union. We recognize the growing significance of digital content creation as a driver of social, cultural, and economic development. This Union exists to protect the rights and interests of content creators, to foster ethical standards, to promote inclusivity, and to advance the professional, creative, and economic empowerment of our members.
Article 1: Membership
- Eligibility: Open to all individuals and organizations engaged in content creation within South Africa, including film, music, digital media, writing, design, and broadcasting.
- Rights of Members:
- Participate in activities and decision-making.
- Vote in meetings and elections (if in good standing).
- Access benefits, training, and representation.
- Responsibilities of Members:
- Uphold the Constitution and Code of Conduct.
- Pay membership fees.
- Contribute to Union's mission and objectives.
- Respect fellow members and act with integrity.
Article 2: Governance Structure
The Union shall be governed by a National Executive Committee (NEC) consisting of:
- President
- Vice President
- Secretary-General
- Deputy Secretary
- Treasurer
- Communications & Media Officer
- Events & Programs Coordinator
- Legal & Policy Advisor
They are responsible for policy, strategy, finance, representation, and execution of objectives.
Article 3: Meetings
- AGM: Supreme decision-making body, held annually.
- SGM: May be convened by NEC or one-third of members.
- Committee Meetings: Held quarterly or as required.
Article 4: Financial Management
- Financial year: 1 Jan - 31 Dec.
- Funds deposited in recognized banks.
- Treasurer + President + one signatory manage transactions.
- Annual independent audit required.
- No income/property distributed to members (only fair compensation).
Article 5: Amendments
Amendments require a two-thirds majority vote at AGM/SGM, with at least 30 days notice to members.
Article 6: Dissolution
The Union may be dissolved by a two-thirds majority vote. Assets will be transferred to a non-profit with similar objectives.
